The white Rhino and other wild attractions at Lake Nakuru National Park

The endagered rhinoceros species

The white rhinoceros or square-lipped rhinoceros is one of the five species of rhinoceros that still exist. It has a wide mouth used for grazing and is the most social of all rhino species. Increasing poaching the already endangered species (with far less than 20000 individuals remaining) is critically threatened. At Lake Nakuru National park, which has since been made a white Rhino conservation area they have 150 naturally co-existing white Rhinos. They keep the records of these animals regulary to monitor how they adapt to location change when the new ones are brought. It is not known how many other white rhinos are in other areas in the country but they keep finding and bringing in new white rhinos when they find them. This is done to avoid the extinction of the species.Lake Nakuru has proven a comfortable conservation for them with the availability of water from the lake and large amounts of grass and land for them to feed on.This also means that these animals are scattered over a large area managing to easily coexist with all the other large mammals that live in the park i.e the buffaloes and the girraffes. This place gives you a taste of rarity at its best with the inclusion of a bird sancturay in the same park and the presence of the rare Rothchild's Girrafe
